Rain , Rain, go away...

The walkway is done! It looks so good I can't stand it! This inspired me to rethink so many details at the inn, that it has snowballed! Firstly, the Hosta disasta...actually a wonderful side effect was moving hundreds(this number grows with each telling of this story)of Hostas from the sidewalk. As I mentioned they were untidy little soldiers marching unevenly up the rigid walk to the door. We ,of course could not remove them, we had to re-use them so I spent 4 days re-planting them in a (if I say so myself) very pleasing curving bed around the perimeter of the property. It is a finishing touch that has added so much to the mulch beds that I almost wish I had more to plant everywhere(not really)I did have the realization that we are aging, not too gracefully, but at least this spring I have lost a lot of weight so do not have to roll to get up anymore...We are very glad the planting is done as we have run out of Aleve. It took three days to recover and I could barely walk the beasties...but the result is so worth it! This endeavor of course led to more shopping, we moved the patio furniture around and bought some more side tables so there are multiple areas to lounge on the terrace...now if only the weather would clear and warm up! It feels more like fall right now, there is a slow moving front drenching rain and howling winds for 2 days. BRRR...but at least the food gods continue to smile on me, today was "green eggs and ham"( a baked egg dish with fresh spinach and ham in a parmesan cream sauce) with fried green tomatoes and local stone ground grits with red bell peppers and fresh herbs from my little side garden and fresh blueberry muffins with lemon zest from one of our guests trees in Florida. Yummy, there wasn't much talk going on til after they were done chewing! Then there was the ginger lemon squares with that fresh lemon juice...buttery, gingery, and just the right tartness... I must brew a cup of tea now and look out from the living room windows on all that work while savoring one...it will be warm soon!
