Halloween....fabulous!!!!

It took me 2 days to recover from the Halloween debacle this year, and that is even with the best help I've ever had for my favorite holiday! This years additions were the life sized skeletons from a catalog that held court over a horrifyingly decadent tablescape on the terrace. We had 2 fog machines and a symphonic cd of horror music playing from the upstairs porch. This year we offered up over 800 full sized candy bars to our loyal trick or treaters! My Mom was here and my sister and nephew who attends the Asheville school, which reminds me of Hogwarts... My staff was so different from last year, they actually relished the carving and one of the girls roomates took such unbelievable pride he carved some of the most elegant and unique pumpkins ever!We are the only stop on the Halloween trip that actually carves all our own pumpkins . we do not enlist the help of strangers by orchestrating a contest, as do the other displays! I thought about it a while and decided if we can't do it on our own, maybe we just shouldn't do it at all!I was so proud and happy with the staff, they really do care about the inn and it really shows! Ruthie is my new assistant, and after all is said and done well worth the wait. She is a very talented chef and has an incredible background in hospitality. I am beginning to feel the relief wash over these old bones as I realize I finally have real help!We are now looking foward to the holidays and this year I expect it will be better than ever!I am also really happy we did not have a difficult October! The weather was incredible and every weekend was sunny and gorgeous and nothing broke or was horrible except a few cancellations. I will never understand people who feel the rules do not apply to them, and they should know that their cancellation can really negatively impact my business. I wish other inn keepers would get together and have a black list of people who should never be allowed to book!I have a list, but it would be unbelievable for these idiots to try to book here again!Maybe it could be like trip advisor, only we review the guests!Too bad trip advisor has lost it's cachet, it is passe now an does not have any real validity due to their lack of ability to police itself and insist on real reviews. It was a good idea but not well implemented! Enough of the venting, I am not completely myself yet after October... I need a little rest!Onward Thanksgiving....Yippee!
